My Story

Growing up in Shiprock, New Mexico, a small town on the Navajo reservation, taught me how all of Earth and Spirit is connected: plants, animals, humans, afterlife.

The power of Earth became my calling and passion.

Planting seeds, physically and spiritually, observing their growth, and seeing the results of my work, motivates me to keep learning more. My journey of higher education in the fields of biology and sociology brought me to Denver, Colorado, and ultimately led me to creating ‘The Indigenous Gardener’.

When working with my hands in the garden I am reminded of my place in the environment, my people’s teachings and stories about respecting the Earth, and how the land feeds, sustains and heals us.

What I value

I strive to improve in my craft and love learning, be it through books about gardening or from the Earth herself. I want to be useful to others with the skills I’ve acquired.

Communication is the highest value influencing my work. Doing a good job is important to me, and only through communication can I meet and exceed my clients’ expectations.  I don’t have a cookie cutter approach. Any solution I offer is tailored to individual needs.

What inspires me

I draw strength from a heightened self-awareness that I’ve achieved throughout the years of practicing meditation. This intrinsic knowledge of who I am is reinforced by learnings from the people that came before me. Now I want to use this knowledge to help others find their meditative side, spiritually and physically. Life is short. I have found my place in it and can help others to find theirs.

A beautiful garden is a meditative place for many people. I create such a place and care for its health by maintaining it throughout the seasons. I acquired professional gardening skills and experience through reading and application, and at times lean on four excellent master gardeners for inspiration.
